Balearic Yacht Destination showcases the work of the Balearic Islands’ nautical companies internationally

Palma has become the epicentre of superyachts thanks to a conference organised by the specialist conference company Quaynote at Hotel Saratoga.

Under the title ‘The Future of Superyachts’, superyacht managers, marina operators, service providers, refit & repair yards, captains, and other professionals from the nautical sector came together to share their points of view and explore international and local superyacht industry developments.

Promoting cooperation between companies

The conference highlighted the great work that the association Balearic Yacht Destination is doing in working with different companies in the Balearic Islands’ nautical sector to promote them internationally.  One of the main aims of Balearic Yacht Destination is to promote the Balearic Islands, not only as a destination to enjoy 365 days a year, but also for its infrastructure and the work carried out by the islands’ nautical companies. With this in mind, BYD represents its member companies at some of the most important shows in the nautical sector, such as the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) and METSTRADE Show (METS) to showcase them internationally.

During the Quaynote conference, speakers from different branches of the nautical sector highlighted the importance of networking for the industry, since what the end customer is seeking is comprehensive solutions to projects where different specialist companies have to work together. They also highlighted the efforts of Balearic Yacht Destination in promoting this teamwork among the association’s member companies. In this way, coworking is encouraged and it is much simpler to coordinate projects involving different companies.

The environmental future

Another of the topics discussed during the conference was the need for regulations to protect the islands’ Posidonia meadows. Companies and people within the nautical sector are becoming increasingly aware of the environment and the need to preserve it. The issue of Posidonia, one of most important natural assets of the Balearic Islands, is a case in point and the conference called for more information on it. Everybody agrees on the need to introduce regulations to protect this marine plant because it plays a vital role in the filtration of sediments, thus providing the islands’ waters with their unique transparency.

The future of superyachts

Quaynote Communications is a specialist conference company with a successful track record of staging events in Europe, Asia and North America. On this occasion, it partnered with The Islander magazine, the monthly publication distributed across the yachting hubs of the western Med, to jointly produce ‘The Future of Superyachts’.

The conference addressed the latest issues of global interest, while recognising the importance of Spain as a centre and destination for superyachts.

Discussion topics included how to continue attracting superyachts to the islands, not only in high season, but throughout the year, and ways of showcasing what the Balearic Islands’ companies can offer in terms of repairs and refits. Also discussed during the event was how Brexit will affect the superyacht industry locally and internationally.

And finally, an update was provided on the port of Palma’s redevelopment project. And on how this expansion of the marina and shipyards will benefit not only Palma but the entire island.
